National Sewing Month Spotlight: Best for Beginning Sewists!

In honor of National Sewing Month, we're celebrating by sharing our team's favorite tools and machines that have made sewing not only accessible but also incredibly enjoyable. Whether you're a novice just getting started or an experienced sewist looking to expand your toolkit, we've curated a list of top recommendations from our staff to inspire your next creative endeavor.

Who are you and what do you do at Singer?

  • I am the Digital Content Manager for mySewnet™. I oversee content on mySewnet™ and help create product awareness and project engagement through mySewnet Studio and Library web assets. mySewnet Studio provides inspirational and educational content, while the Library offers all the components and files needed for custom projects. I work closely with all Category Directors and Product Experts globally across SVP to highlight key experiences and ensure our content aligns with the overall strategy for mySewnet.

What type of sewist are you (how long have you been sewing)?

  • I am more of a Skill Builder. I am very curious and enjoy learning new things, often inspired by the process of investigation. Slow and methodical mastery is important to me, and I like to seek out new techniques and sometimes stretch myself with challenging projects. I have been sewing since I was nine years old; my great-grandmother taught me, and it was our special way to spend time together during the hot Arizona summers. ( The Quilited Pillow I have in the photo is the very first pillow I made with my great-grandmother! )

What projects are you working on right now?

  • I am currently working on an envelope pillow cover using one of my old college shirts. It’s a simple and enjoyable project that’s perfect for beginners. Plus, it’s a great way to repurpose sentimental items and create something unique and cozy for your home.

What Singer machine is great for your style of sewing/crafting?

What feature of this machine makes your sewing easier?

  • The Sew Easy foot is a standout feature of the SINGER® Simple 3337. It helps maintain consistent seam allowances, ensuring that my projects look professional and polished. This foot is especially helpful for beginners, as it guides the fabric smoothly and accurately.

Words of Wisdom for Others:

  • Embrace the learning process and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Each project is an opportunity to improve your skills and discover new techniques. Remember, sewing is as much about the journey as it is about the finished product. Happy sewing! đźŚź
